EUROPEAN SOCIETY FOR VOCATIONAL DESIGNING AND CAREER COUNSELING
ESVDC The European Society for Vocational Designing and Career Counseling ESVDC was founded in 2011 in order to stimulate and promote European and international collaboration in research and development in the fields of life-designing, vocational guidance and career counseling. It brings together existing networks of researchers and networks of academic teachers in these fields, in order to facilitate the emergence of a new generation of specialists all over Europe. ESVDC reinforces the identity of European scientists, by sharing information, ideas and projects, by creating a program of post-doc exchanges, by offering access to high quality expert resources and by enhancing sustainable long term developments in life-designing and career counseling. Among work in progress, the creation of a marketplace for research projects and job or exchange opportunities for young researchers and establishing relations with other associations, institutions or policymakers are under way.
SOCIETY FOR VOCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY
The Society for Vocational Psychology is a Section in the Counseling Psychology Division (17) of the American Psychological Association. Its purpose is to encourage, promote, and facilitate contributions to research, teaching, practice, and public interest in vocational psychology and career interventions. The current president is Ellen McWhirter.
SOCIETY OF COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY, DIVISION 17, OF THE AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION
The Society of Counseling Psychology (SCP) is Division 17 of the American Psychological Association. We are a professional organization with more than 2,600 members and affiliates. The purpose of the Society of Counseling Psychology is to promote the interests, activities, and values of counseling psychologists. In particular, we aim to: guide professional education and training of specialists in counseling psychology; encourage the generation and dissemination of research and scholarship in the specialty of counseling psychology; support the ethical and competent practice of counseling psychology in a variety of applied settings; promote diversity within the Society and the application of counseling psychology in the public interest; support effective communication among counseling psychologists and between the Society and other entities. Our philosophy emphasizes developmental, strength-based, multicultural, and social justice principles, as well as positive psychology and international perspectives. This philosophy is apparent in our nationally ranked journal, The Counseling Psychologist, and our Newsletter which is available electronically on this website (http://www.div17.org/).
INTERNATIONAL SECTION OF COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY, DIVISION 17, AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION
The International Section of the Counseling Psychology, Division 17 of the American Psychological Association, is dedicated to encouraging, promoting, and facilitating a scientist-professional model of counseling psychology in international contexts in the U.S.A. and around the globe. The members are active in welcoming international colleagues to the APA annual convention and providing opportunities for cross national collaboration.
COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY, DIVISION 16, OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY
The Counseling Psychology Division (16) in the International Association of Applied Psychology promotes the science and practice of counseling by facilitating interaction and communication about applied psychology around the world. The Division takes part in the organization of the IAAP international meetings in which a space is systematically devoted also to career counseling issues. The current president of Division 16 is Mark Savickas.
ADAPTABILITY RESEARCH COLLABORATIVE GROUP
The Adaptability Research Collaborative is a group of psychologists from 17 countries who jointly investigate the process of making career transitions. It is a large research group that has recently got together to expand on the knowledge of the construct of adaptability and professional transition processes. Its members come from 17 countries and are currently engaged in cross-cultural confrontations on instruments that can be used for assessment.
SOCIETÀ ITALIANA DI PSICOLOGIA POSITIVA
The Italian Society of Positive Psychology (SIPP) is a non-profit society. Among its activities: 1) It promotes theory and practice in Positive Psychology. 2) It favors and promotes research in Positive Psychology areas, such as: identification of human potential and resources; bio-psycho-social aspects of cognition, emotions and positive experiences; subjective wellbeing; self-esteem, creativity, and spirituality; explanatory styles; social relationships; coping abilities; wellbeing in specific populations. 3) It fosters the dissemination and teaching of theoretical and applied advancements in the field. 4) It provides professionals with training programs and courses. 5) It carries out professional positive psychology intervention for promoting quality of life, psychological wellbeing and health in personal, working, family and social life. 6) It promotes, establishes and keeps scientific relations with scholars or national and international associations pursuing the same goals. In pursuing these goals, among other things, SIPP organizes and takes part in national and international congresses, conferences, seminars, courses, and meetings, and it may affiliate with similar national and international associations. In addition, it promotes the publication of paper and electronic articles, journals, and books.
AMERICAN COUNSELING ASSOCIATION
The American Counseling Association (ACA) is a not-for-profit, professional and educational organization that is dedicated to the growth and enhancement of the counseling profession. Founded in 1952, ACA is the world's largest association exclusively representing professional counselors in various practice settings. By providing leadership training, publications, continuing education opportunities, and advocacy services to more than 50,000 members, ACA helps counseling professionals develop their skills and expand their knowledge base. Each year, more than 4,000 counseling professionals from around the world attend ACA's Conference & Expo. In 2013, the ACA Conference will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 20-24. In 2014, it will be held in Honolulu, Hawaii on March 26-30 and in 2015, in Orlando, Florida, March 11-15. ACA has been instrumental in setting professional and ethical standards for the counseling profession. The association also has made considerable strides in accreditation, licensure, and certification for counseling professionals. ACA represents the interest of the profession before the U.S. Congress and federal agencies and promotes recognition of professional counselors to the public and the news media. NETWORK FOR INNOVATION IN CAREER GUIDANCE & COUNSELING IN EUROPE
The Network for Innovation in Career Guidance and Counselling in Europe (NICE) involves 45 partners from 28 European countries. Most of them are higher education institutions that offer degree programmes in career guidance and counselling or engage in related research. Supported financially through the European Commission, the members of NICE will engage in several activities to enhance academic cooperation in our field from 2012 to 2015. Important projects within the “NICE 2” programme will be:
• the formulation of a joint memorandum on the role of higher education in career guidance and counselling,
• the development and testing of common points of reference for the academic training of career guidance and counselling professionals (e.g. the NICE Core Competences),
• activities to support the exchange of lecturers, researchers and students between the participating institutions, and
• the development of a sustainable infrastructure for future networking, including an online community and database.
The NICE 2 programme will be accompanied by many international workshops and three large conferences. In particular, a wide range of actors interested in the academic training and research in career guidance and counselling (including policy-makers, members of professional associations, and representatives of research and training institutions) will be invited to a large international conference in Canterbury from September 3-6 in 2014. EURO-MEDITERRANEAN CENTRE FOR EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH (EMCER)
The Euro-Mediterranean Centre for Educational Research (EMCER) at the University of Malta carries out comparative studies on a wide range of aspects of education that are of particular concern to the Mediterranean region. It offers a Master degree in Comparative Education, manages a network of education scholars, and is responsible for the Mediterranean Journal of Educational Studies, an international biannual peer reviewed journal, now in its fifteenth year. Recent projects looked at career guidance in the Arab states and Turkey, and provided support to Egypt and Palestine in the development of a career guidance policy.
NETWORK - UNIVERSITY TRAINING IN VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE
It sees the involvement of numerous Italian Universities and intends to promote training in vocational guidance public and university-based through attendance of post-graduate Master courses and Specialization courses, in consideration of what is emerging within the University Network for Innovation in Guidance (Erasmus Academic Network - NICE). At this regards a 'Joint paper for the enhancement and recognition of professionalism and training of vocational guidance practitioners' has been drafted.
AIP - ITALIAN PSYCHOLOGY ASSOCIATION
The AIP – Italian Association of Psychology has being representing the national point of reference for all the psychologists that work in academic settings and research institutions from 1992.
Its aims concern:
- Promoting national and international research
- Developing a scientific-cultural debate among psychologists
- Collaborating with policy makers and other scientific society as regard higher education training and research founding.
The AIP actively promotes conferences and workshops, and awards and summer schools especially for young researchers. Moreover it promotes the respect of its ethical code during research and training activities.
THE ITALIAN AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGY ASSEMBLY (IAPA)
The Italian American Psychology Assembly (IAPA) is a professional organization of psychologists and other educators co-founded in 2006 by Elizabeth G. Messina and Anthony J. Marsella, that seeks to: develop a resource network that links Italian American and Italian psychologists; foster cooperative teaching and research on Italian and Italian American culture and behavior; learn more about Italian and Italian American history, culture, and society; promote an understanding of Italian and Italian American culture and behavior; recognize and honor distinguished Italian American and Italian psychologists.
AAIDD
The American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) is the oldest professional association concerned with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Established in 1876, AAIDD advocates for the equality, dignity, and human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and for their full inclusion and participation in society. The name of the Association changed over the years, most recently on January 1, 2007 from the "American Association on Mental Retardation" to "AAIDD."
THE FRENCH PSYCHOLOGIST GUIDANCE COUNSELLOR ASSOCIATION - ACOP-F
The French psychologist Guidance Counsellor Association is an association created in 1931. Since the beginning, its purpose has been to gather professionals of guidance and careers counselling. It is also a forum for debates; it pays attention to deontology related to psychologist and guidance and contributes to develop the guidance counselling in the National Education. It also promotes:
- Psychology and Social Science to the benefit of education and guidance
- Research in these fields and public guidance.
It develops in France and internationally relationship with others organizations especially with those who gather psychologists.
INTERDEPARTMENTAL CENTER FOR FAMILY STUDIES CIRF
Institutional aims. The Interdepartmental Center for Family Studies at the University of Padova, academic activities regard the following objectives:
a) promoting research on the structure and development of various forms of individual lifestyles in households, as well on the family as a whole;
b) developing scientific, methodological and theoretical models and tools in the field of family studies;
c) experimenting and promoting the formation of scholars in the field of family training, prevention and therapy;
d) promote applied research through family psycho-social-educational services in collaboration with local governments, school districts and private social services;
e) promote and facilitate interdisciplinary comparisons in family studies and interventions for and with families.
Specifically, CIRF promotes the following activities:
a) seminars, lectures, conferences and workshops on family issues;
b) collection, classification and publication of national and international research concerning family issues;
c) research on training, prevention and therapeutic works on family related issues;
d) public and extra-academic collaboration and consultancy for family assessment research and interventions.
To achieve the above mentioned goals the Interdepartmental Center for Family Studies:
a) cooperates with other departments interested in family issues or research methodologies useful for family research;
b) promotes and conducts academic research on the basis of contracts and agreements;
c) engages in research of national and international interest.
INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR EDUCATIONAL AND VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE (IAEVG)
It is a vibrant global professional community with a proud history spanning more than 50 years. With over 22,000 members from 45 countries in six continents, it is the only international association for educational and vocational guidance practitioners and career practitioner associations.
A central aim of educational and vocational guidance is to assist individuals in managing their learning and work. This is achieved by helping people to:
- understand and appreciate their skills and abilities
- relate effectively with others
- explore career alternatives
- develop appropriate plans for learning and work
- integrate successfully into society and the labour market
IAEVG promotes equitable access to quality educational and vocational guidance services through:
- increased professional dialogue and exchange;
- rigour in ethical standards, training and ongoing professional development;
- leading edge research;
- the development of innovative resources and approaches;
- evaluation and accountability measures; and
- visionary leadership.
IAEVG and its member associations hold regular conferences and seminars in all parts of the world. Recent IAEVG professional events have taken place in Australia, Canada, Germany, Venezuela, France, Poland, Switzerland, USA, South Africa, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Italy, Argentina, New Zealand, and India.
ASSOCIAZIONE ITALIANA DI ANALISI E MODIFICAZIONE DEL COMPORTAMENTO (AIAMC)
The Italian Association of Analysis and Modification of behavior – Associazione Italiana di Analisi e Modificazione del comportamento (AIAMC) – was founded in Verona in 1977 and after it has added to its name the words “Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy”. The AIAMC is a professional scientific association to promote theory and practice of the analysis, the modification and the behavioral and cognitive theory in all its fields and particularly in the fields of physical and mental health, teaching, education, training, organization. To achieve such purposes, it also organizes and participates in congresses, conferences, seminars, courses and meetings at a regional, national or international level.
SOCIETÀ ITALIANA DI PSICOLOGIA DEL LAVORO E DELL’ORGANIZZAZIONE
SIPLO is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1995 promoting development and dissemination of work and organizational psychology as a scientific discipline and profession. SIPLO aims to become a privileged and cultural reference for all work and organizational psychology practitioners, providing a system of national and international relations and a large repertory of practices.
SIPLO’s main areas of activity are:
1. meetings, conferences, seminars about main issues
2. relationships and exchanges with other italian and international associations. SIPLO is associated to the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology (EAWOP) and has recently signed an agreement with AIV (Italian Association of Evaluation) in order to start a collaboration (i.e. common seminars)
3. support to the first trial of the European certification 'Specialized EuroPsy' in the national context about psychologist competences.
4. studies and researches togethere with italian and international companies.
In line with the aims of the association, the second National Congress of SIPLO scheduled for october 2013 is aimed to facilitate dialogue and collaboration between academics, practitioners, managers, entrepreneurs, employed and unemployed people. But also it engages all different stakeholders who are more and more asking work psychologists for tools and methodologies to cope with current crisis in economy and in society.
